Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising - DLC & Patch
« on: February 28, 2010, 12:28:42 PM »

OK; so this game was something of a let down upon release.

They promised 100+ vehicles, 1000's of weapons/attachment combinations. The world largest open world shooter and infinte options and ways of completing everysingle mission and the campaign as a whole.

Well, for people who played it will aready know, they pretty much failed t delivery on each and every one of their promises.

What we did get was a nice looking, fairly realistic (by gaming standards) modern warfare shooter. Multiplayer suffered terrible from lag and connection issues. The missions are time constrained and the apparent abundancy of weapon options and vehciles was just never realised.

Well...: CodeMasters have since release 2 patchs (the latest is 1.02) which solve ALOT of connection issues in multiplayer, AI problems, makes the game more free flowing and open ended.

The community have created a couple of mods which allow the entire map to be opened up in a completely island wide assault with all weapons and vehicles at your disposal. More details on that here: here...

Code Masters have dropped support for this game; siting that the dev team are moving onto the next stage of modern combat gaming (op flash 3?) - i just hope they learn from the release day mistakes of this game.

In short with the latest patch this game would have been pretty decent on release and it makes it now into a fairly enjoayble shooter - especially in co-op with friends. If your not quite ready to chuck it away download the patches from here and give it another go. Patch is here...

Original Operation Flashpoint, game of the year edition was one of the best war games i have ever played. I was very disappointed when i read reviews of dragon rising. So i havent bought it yet, not until i can get it cheap as 20-25€. Inspired me and im downloading demo right now. I hope Next one will be more like the first one: Almost, perfect!
Fun

hi Tempous. i totally agree - OF is probably the greatest computer game ever conceived imo. However, if you like OF, you'll hate OF2. They took everything that made the game special and pissed it away, leaving behind a shadow of its former glory. honestly, it'll break your heart.

i might have a look with this new patch, but its not going to be a genuine OF2 really is it?

Interestingly, the dev team that game us the original went on to make ArmA II, which feels more like the successor to OF

I'd be well up for trying this out.. BUT with BC2 out in just a few days, it just wouldn't get a real airing.

A shame, since OFP was the sex of milsim games. Must have spent more time playing that than Eppi has spent on DoD :D

This game's a piece of shit btw.

Only 11 missions, none of them particularly hard. No vehicular combat whatsoever. No airborne missions. Only about 4-5 weapons. Only about 25% of the overall map used.

We completed it very easily and couldn't find anything else to do with the game. No one actually seems to be making decent coop maps in the community (this game has no community AFAIK) and Codemasters have dropped support so don't expect any official content (and even if they were developing official content I can't imagine it being much better or more substantial than the shit campaign).

Maybe pick the game up for £2-3 if you know someone else that hasn't done the campaign yet but it's probably not worth the effort.

To be honest, I don't know why I even allowed myself to be seduced by Codemasters' talk of a sequel that would deliver on their promises. Thankfully BFBC2 is doing a pretty good job of providing the modern warfare experience I was after from OFDR. Codemasters should just stick to making shit hot racing games, bring on GRID 2!
